Scott Dikkers is an American comedy writer, speaker, and entrepreneur. He is the founder and longest-serving editor-in-chief of The Onion, a satirical news website. He is also the author of several books, including How to Write Funny and Our Dumb Century. Dikkers has also written and directed several films, including Spaceman and Bad Meat.
Dikkers was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1965. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he studied journalism. After graduating, he worked as a writer for several newspapers and magazines. In 1988, he co-founded The Onion with two friends. The Onion quickly became a popular website, and Dikkers served as its editor-in-chief from 1988 to 1999. He has since returned to the role on several occasions.
Dikkers is a frequent speaker at comedy and business conferences. He is also a mentor to young comedians and entrepreneurs. He is a recipient of the Peabody Award and the Thurber Prize for American Humor.
