Darren Shan (born July 2, 1972) is an Irish author of young adult fiction. He is best known for his series The Saga of Darren Shan, which follows a boy who becomes a vampire. Shan has also written the Demonata series, the Zom-B series, and the City Trilogy. He has sold over 25 million books worldwide.

Shan was born in London, England, but grew up in Limerick, Ireland. He studied sociology and English at Roehampton University. After graduating, he worked as a cable television operator before becoming a full-time writer.

Shan is a prolific writer and has published over 50 books. He is also a successful screenwriter and has adapted several of his books into films. In 2013, he was awarded the Irish Book Award for Children's Book of the Year for his novel The Thin Executioner.
