He was born in Jabalpur, India, and studied philosophy at the University of Jabalpur. After graduating, he worked as a professor of philosophy at the University of Sagar. In 1966, he moved to the United States and founded the Rajneeshpuram commune in Antelope, Oregon. The commune was eventually disbanded in 1985, and Osho moved to Pune, India, where he continued to give lectures and hold meditation camps until his death in 1990.
