Osho (born Rajneesh Chandra Mohan Jain; December 11, 1931 – January 19, 1990) was an Indian mystic, spiritual teacher and founder of the Rajneesh movement. He was born in Jabalpur, India, and studied philosophy at the University of Jabalpur. After graduating, he worked as a professor of philosophy at the University of Sagar. In 1957, he renounced his academic career and began to travel throughout India, giving lectures and holding meditation camps. In 1966, he moved to the United States and founded the Rajneeshpuram commune in Antelope, Oregon. The commune was eventually disbanded in 1985, and Osho moved to Pune, India, where he continued to give lectures and hold meditation camps until his death in 1990.

Osho's teachings are based on the idea of individual liberation and the need for spiritual awakening. He believed that the traditional religions of the world were outdated and that a new spiritual path was needed for the modern age. His teachings have been influential in the New Age movement and have attracted a large following around the world.
