Charles Baxter was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1947. He graduated from Macalester College in 1969 and received his Ph.D. in English from the University at Buffalo in 1974. He has taught at Wayne State University, the University of Michigan, and the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. He has published two novels and four collections of short stories, as well as a book of essays.
