Benjamin Disraeli was a British statesman, Conservative politician, and writer who twice served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He was born in London in 1804 to a Jewish family. He was baptized as an Anglican in 1817. He began his career as a novelist, writing several popular works, including "Vivian Grey" and "Sybil." He entered politics in 1837 and served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1852 to 1858. He became Prime Minister in 1868 and again in 1874. He died in 1881.
