Susan Cain is an American writer and lecturer. She is the author of the 2012 non-fiction book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, which argues that modern Western culture misunderstands and undervalues the traits and capabilities of introverted people.
Cain was born in 1968 and grew up in New York City. She graduated from Princeton University with a degree in English in 1989 and from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctor in 1993. After law school, she worked as a corporate lawyer for seven years before leaving to pursue a career in writing.
Quiet was a New York Times bestseller and was translated into 40 languages. It won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Non-Fiction in 2012. Cain has since given hundreds of talks and lectures on the topic of introversion. She is also the co-founder of Quiet Revolution, a mission-based company that promotes the value of introversion.
