Pramoedya Ananta Toer was an Indonesian novelist and writer. He was born on February 6, 1925, in Blora, Java. He was imprisoned by the Dutch colonial government from 1947 to 1949. In 1965, he was sent to the Buru Island prison camp by the Suharto regime. He was released in 1979. He died on April 30, 2006, in Jakarta.
