Michael Levine is an American developmental and cell biologist at Princeton University. He is notable for co-discovering the Homeobox in 1983 and for discovering the organization of the regulatory regions of developmental genes. He was born in West Hollywood, California in 1955 and studied biology at UC Berkeley, where he graduated in 1976. He went on to graduate studies at Yale, where he received a Ph. D. in molecular biophysics and biochemistry in 1981. Levine joined the Princeton faculty in 2015, and had been a professor at UC Berkeley after leaving UCSD in 1996. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and has received numerous awards for his research, including the Molecular Biology Award from the National Academy of Sciences in 1996.
