Clifton Fadiman was an American author, editor, radio and television personality, and anthologist.
He was born in New York City in 1904 and graduated from Columbia University in 1925.
After teaching school for a year, he joined Simon & Schuster as an editor.
In 1933, he became book editor of The New Yorker magazine.
From 1938 to 1948, he hosted the popular radio program Information Please.
He was a member of the editorial board of the Book-of-the-Month Club from 1944 to 1993 and a member of the Board of Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica from 1959 to 1998.
Fadiman was a prolific author, writing over 50 books, including essays, biographies, and anthologies.
He died in 1999 at the age of 95.
