Thomas Fuller was an African-born slave in America who was a prodigious mental calculator. He was born in Benin in 1710 and was enslaved at the age of 14. He was sold to a planter in Virginia, where he learned to calculate by watching his master. Fuller was able to multiply large numbers in his head and could even calculate the number of seconds a person had lived. He was known as the "Virginia Calculator" and was a popular attraction in Virginia. Fuller died in 1790 at the age of 80.
